Dylusions Art Journal Page - Flying Unicorn

Hi Everyone,

Today I am happy to share with you an art journal page created using Dylusions Sprays and Dylusions Stamps by Ranger. I am super happy with how it has turned out, however let me tell you this page was almost ripped out of my journal and thrown straight into the bin. The short story, I created my background, doodled around my leaves and was amazed at how good all the colours and stamping etc looked. For some unknown reason I thought I would get out my sprays and ink up the pages behind, overexcited and over zealous with sprays I coloured the page and the ink soaked through to my previous finished page. Oh oh, a few nice words were said and I shut my journal and walked away. Light bulb moment, I got out my stamps, stamped and fussy cut my way to create a lovely lady with a full head of doodled hair. Under the doodled hair is a mess of purple and blue ink, can you see it? it is possible to turn a mess into a piece of art. All shading has been completed using Faber Castell Gelato in black.

Art Journal Page - Flying Unicorn

I am here with you today to share a mixed media double art journal page. Art journaling is relatively new to me, I initially thought 'I cannot do it and I don't know what to do'. To my amazement, I am LOVING it, CAN do it and love the idea of having an art journal with a selection of my work in it. Who has not attempted an art journal page? I challenge you to give it a go, I did!

This double page has been created with music sheets, and Faber Castell Gelatos. Coloring with Faber Castell Gelatos and water is so much fun, you scribble scribble and then blend with water and a paint brush. It is borderline impossible to mess it up (note the word borderline), I love this.

Who is feeling inspired to start an art journal too?

Wishing you all a happy and creative week.

WCYDW - Flying Unicorn

I am here with you today to share with you what I consider to be a MOST exciting product from Twiddleybitz called Rusting Powder. Now a few of you may have seen it in the store and may have been a little unsure what to do with it. I am about to let you in on a sneaky secret, check out the below nuts and bolts. What you are looking at is painted resin with Rusting Powder, how good does it look?

To replicate this look you will need the following....

PVA Craft Glue (any old white runny glue should work).
Vinegar (I used cleaning vinegar, but any white vinegar should do)
Mini Misters

These are my plain resin pieces which I made from molds.

I mixed together in a small bowl a small amount silver, grey and black acrylic paint to replicate a similar color of a nut or screw.

The paint was applied and allowed to dry.

Take x 2 Mini Misters and fill one with vinegar and the other with equal quantities of both water and glue.

Now apply fairly gentle spray of your water/glue solution. You really do not want to over spray here as you want a gentle rust appearance not a completely rusted look.

Sprinkle on rusting powder and then shake off excess.

Spray liberally with vinegar, you can see below that I really sprayed quite a lot of vinegar on the pieces.  Now that your home smells like a fish and chip shop, you wait, and I mean WAIT. Do not be tempted to use your heat gun, leave over night and see the results in the morning.

And hey presto, one long overnight wait and look what I awoke to in the morning. My lovely rusty nuts and bolts.

Think about what you could do with this? start thinking beyond resin. It can be used on chipboard, cardboard, paper, wood, paper mache, flowers etc. Here are a few more projects I have used it in.

Rusty frame, rusting powder over silver painted cardboard frame.

 Rusty Leakyshed Studios chippy.

A full sheet of instructions are included with every container of rusting powder. The instructions also state you can use bleach too, I have not tried this as I much prefer the smell of vinegar over bleach.

Cannot wait  to see some creations with this amazingly versatile powder.

Wishing you all a happy and creative day!!

Magic Happens - Flying Unicorn

Hi Everyone,

Here is what I made with the OTP included in the December 'Magic' kit from Flying Unicorn. I turned the frame into a shadow box which is now a whimsical garden of lace, flowers and fairies. I have tried to photograph the best I could to show the full depth and layering included.

I worked with the Enchanted Garden collection by Kaisercraft and embellished with Charlotte flowers by Prima.

Thanks for looking!!
